Abolitionist's Speech

We the people of the American Abolitionists Society are constantly striving to end the practice of slavery in the United States, specifically in the District of Columbia. Our goal is to fight endlessly to ensure that every citizen of the United States of America is entitled to their unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness that are stated in the Declaration of Independence our founding fathers bestowed upon the nation since its fight for freedom began in 1755. We as Americans have to stand up to the injustice seen throughout the country, and take proper action to bring to an end this inhumane practice.
The most important activity of abolitionists was their involvement with the Underground Railroad, which took a non violent approach in assisting slaves in escaping to the North or Canada where slavery was illegal. We provided the slaves with disguises, food and shelter, and also hid them away from police and slave catchers. Because it was a “secret” railroad, records of its activity in the District are vague. Nat Turner on the other hand is a mystical black leader that carried out numerous slave rebellions and revolts against white owners.  This brought about the fear of a massive uproar that is conducted by abolitionists.
Not only is slavery a cruel and inhumane act, it undermines the freedom, righteousness, order, and prosperity of all society. All men are created equal, and are to be given liberty and equality in our society. It is morally wrong, and goes against the Christian beliefs our founding fathers passed down from generations past. Because it is against US ideals, slavery being practiced in the District will insinuate the city is disreputable. Freed slaves must now be treated as white’s social and political equals, and one day, people of all backgrounds will be incorporated into American society.
We will aggressively use our free speech and free press to identify and denounce this cruel institution. The evils of slavery will be expressed to convince American society that not only was it morally wrong, but also against the goal of the republic. We will persuade individual slaveholders to free their slaves as opposed to dealing with the government on the issue. Antislavery propaganda will be distributed throughout the South. If all fails, we will result to revolts, rebellions and civil disobedience, following in the footsteps of Nat Turner.
As a result of these methods, and the cooperation of our society, the end to slavery will come in the near future. No man shall be treated unjust in our nation. No man deserves to endure the suffering previous blacks have faced, and overcome. As long as the American Abolitionists Society is improving the way of life for people in the United States, the abolishing of slavery and the granting of equal rights for all Americans, no matter their color, will be our number one goal for the District of Columbia.
